The applicant will need to show the birth certificates and provide the Social Security numbers. The applicant does not have to be a resident of Rhode Island, although residents need to apply in the towns where the bride resides.

If previously married, the applicant will need to show a final divorce decree or a death certificate for a deceased spouse.

There are no Covenant Marriages. There is no Waiting Period.

Cousin Marriages are legal. Proxy Marriages and Common Law Marriages are not allowed in Rhode Island. Same Sex Marriages are allowed.

Females under the age of 16, and males under the age of 18 cannot get married without prior approval from the Family Court.
